Alexander Hlepas, MD

Dr. Hlepas grew up in Greece and Germany and obtained his medical degree from Charité University in Berlin, Germany. He received additional elective training in university hospitals abroad including Switzerland, Austria and Greece, which he completed in the corresponding local language.

Dr. Hlepas moved to the United States in 2018 for a clinical research position at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He has stayed in the city of Chicago ever since and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center where he also received training in the management of vascular access under the mentorship of Dr. Monnie Wasse. He then completed his nephrology fellowship training at the University of Chicago. During his fellowship he also got trained in the management of polycystic kidney disease by Dr. Arlene Chapman and in hypertension by Dr. George Bakris. Dr. Hlepas is author of several peer reviewed scientific publications in highly regarded medical journals. He has a particular interest in kidney stone disease and polycystic kidney disease, and recently authored related book chapters.

After joining Lakeside Nephrology in 2024, he became a consulting subspecialty attending physician at Ascension St. Francis Hospital and Weiss Hospital where he trains resident physicians in the field of nephrology. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a member of the American Society of Nephrology.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking Greek food, swimming and running.
